 Associate Staff Chaplin (Onsite)
Columbia, MO 65203

Duration: 3 Months (possible extension or perm placement)

Shift: 

• M-F 8-4:30, alternating on-call nights/weekend, and alternating Sat-Sun weekend coverage

Overview: The Associate, Staff Chaplain will provide spiritual support to patients, family and staff. Facilitate arrangements as needed to enable patients to practice their spiritual beliefs while hospitalized. Act as liaison with community clergy of all faith groups.

Responsibilities: 

• Respond to referrals of admitted patients/families, assess their spiritual needs, and provide spiritual care and counseling accordingly.
• Provide crisis intervention services to patients/families in all health care system facilities as requested.
• Function as a cohesive member of the spiritual care team, providing spiritual care services for patients of other chaplains as needed.
• Work collaboratively with medical treatment teams.
• Serve as On-Call Chaplain for medical and spiritual emergencies. Act as liaison between hospital staff, patients/family/friends of the patient during periods of crisis, such as critical illness.
• Contact the patient’s faith leader at the patient’s request. Coordinate spiritual care activities with other health care disciplines to avoid interrupting medical care and to ensure spiritual support for the patient.
• Perform religious rites or arrange for appropriate religious leaders to do so, as requested by the patient or family.
• Provide interdenominational worship services as needed and schedule chapel functions, including visiting clergy.
• Document spiritual care services provided in the electronic medical record as defined in department policies. Attend patient conferences as requested.
• May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in divinity, theology or a related field.
• One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from a recognized CPE program.
• Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
