Medical Interpreter (Onsite)
DeKalb County, IL
3 months (possible extension or perm offered)
Shift: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm or 7am- 3:30pm
$25/hr
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate communication between LEP patients/family members, visitors and providers in all setting throughout our Health System, including conferences, meetings, and/or other Health informational settings.
- Respond promptly to pages and appropriately assess priority of requests.
- Round to patient care areas to evaluate the need for interpretation services.
- Document all interventions in the patient’s medical record.
- Serve as a liaison between patients/families and hospital staff to convey patient customer service needs and culture-specific
issues/concerns. - Assist, as able, with appropriate written and sight translations requests, such as discharge instructions.
- Assist, as able, with appropriate department projects and other requests; such as translating, editing, and proofing written material.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience as Medical Interpreter
- Prefer 2 plus years of experience as a Medical Interpreter
- Licenses or Certifications:
- Oral proficiency Oral proficiency Interview (OPI) or Interpreter Readiness Assessment demonstrating competency in English and target
language required to perform interpretation responsibilities at a competent level. - Certificate in Medical Terminology Interpreting Training, Bridging the Gap. (40 hours of Training in Medical Interpreting).
- Certificate in Medical Terminology Interpreting Training
- Certified Healthcare Interpreter
- Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
