Jira Platform Engineer (Enterprise Data Center & Cloud Migration Leader) (Remote)
Length: 6 month contract (potential extension)

Overview:

We are seeking a senior, enterprise-level Jira Platform Engineer to join a highly experienced team that plays a vital role in product development operations. This position supports one of the largest and most complex Jira Data Center environments globally and will be instrumental in leading and executing a large-scale migration to the Atlassian Cloud Stack.

This is not a basic Jira administrator role. The selected candidate must be capable of owning Jira as a mission-critical enterprise platform — operating confidently across application administration, infrastructure layers, and cloud migration strategy.

The environment supports 30,000–40,000+ global users, and the right candidate must have experience operating at comparable scale.

What You’ll Do:

• Own and support large-scale Jira Data Center environments (enterprise scale)

• Lead and contribute to complex Data Center to Jira Cloud migrations

• Develop migration strategies beyond simple lift-and-shift approaches

• Perform plugin rationalization and governance redesign for Cloud readiness

• Support post-migration stabilization and performance optimization

• Administer both Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud ecosystems at scale

• Perform application-level upgrades, optimization, cleanup, and performance tuning

• Maintain and enhance monitoring and alerting solutions (New Relic, Splunk)

• Build and automate tooling to expand self-service capabilities

• Integrate Jira with enterprise platforms (e.g., GitHub and related development tools)

• Partner with infrastructure teams to ensure systems are patched, secure, and optimized

• Troubleshoot complex front-end and back-end technical challenges in a high-scale enterprise environment

Required Experience & Qualifications:

Enterprise Jira Expertise

• 5+ years of hands-on Jira Data Center administration at enterprise scale

• 2+ years of Jira Cloud administration at enterprise scale

• Proven experience leading large-scale Data Center to Cloud migrations

• Experience in environments supporting 30,000–40,000+ global users

• Deep understanding of:

  • Migration strategy

  • Plugin rationalization

  • Governance redesign

  • Post-migration stabilization

  • Enterprise-scale performance considerations

Infrastructure & Systems Expertise

• Strong proficiency in RedHat Linux system administration

• Experience with clustering, server management, and performance tuning

• Solid understanding of OS-level support and enterprise data center environments

• Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting across infrastructure layers
